- AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA)
On July 26, 1990, President Bush signed into law the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 ("ADA"), a federal law which prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. The ADA addresses discrimination in four general areas: 1. Employment (Title I); 2. Public services (Title II); 3. Public accommodations and commercial facilities (Title III); and, 4. Telecommunications (Title lV). The purpose of the ADA is to give individuals with disabilities civil rights protection against discrimination similar to hose afforded to individuals on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, and religion.Back
