A bear market is sometimes described as a period of falling securities prices and sometimes, more specifically, as the point at which prices have fallen 20% or more from a high. A bear market in stocks is triggered by investors selling off shares because they anticipate worsening economic conditions and falling profits. A bear market in bonds is usually brought on by rising interest rates.Back
