A competitive trader, also known as a registered competitive trader or a floor trader, buys and sells stocks for his or her own account on the floor of an exchange, such as the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Traders must follow very specific rules governing when they can buy and sell. But since they trade in large volumes and do not pay commissions on their transactions, they are able to profit from even small differences in the price they pay and the price they get when they sell.Back
