• NIKKEI STOCK AVERAGE
  
  The most widely quoted Japanese stock market index. Nihon Keizai Shimbun, parent of the major business newspaper of the same name, calculates the Nikkei. The Nikkei shows the average price for 225 issues, weighted in much the same way as the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The companies that make up the Nikkei are chosen to reflect the overall performance of the Japanese stock market.
