• STOCK EXCHANGE
  
  A market with a trading floor where securities are bought and sold. In the United States the major exchanges are the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the American Stock Exchange (AMEX). There are several regional stock exchanges in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and Cincinnati. Stock exchanges also operate in Tokyo, London, and dozens of cities worldwide.
